House to Markup FY 2013 Agriculture Appropriations Bill Tomorrow

 

The House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee intends to markup its FY 2013 bill tomorrow. Working with a smaller 302(b) allocation (budget ceiling) than last year or the Senate, the House proposes to cut many agencies and programs below their FY 2012 enacted levels. The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is not spared from these cuts; the NIFA topline would be cut by 2.27%. The only program with a significant bump-up compared to FY 2012 is the Agriculture and Food Research Initiative which would receive a $12 million increase.

The subcommittee markup is likely to be followed by a markup by the full House Appropriations Committee during the week of June 18. We will provide a detailed analysis of the House and Senate results once the full committee has completed its work. In the meantime, we can report tentative results for all NIFA lines:
